Designing a public building presents unique challenges, requiring a balance between function, urban integration, and public accessibility. For the General Secretary of Infrastructure, the goal was to create a rigorous office structure that also serves as a cultural and leisure hub. To achieve this, we elevated the main office volume, freeing the ground level to unify surrounding green areas and passages. This open design fosters connectivity and interaction, transforming the building into a public landmark rather than a state symbol.
The office spaces are centered around a large open atrium, supported by four pillars, with a perimetric corridor ensuring seamless navigation. This layout accommodates the building’s complex functions while enhancing user experience. The ground-level plaza hosts cultural and shared spaces without disrupting urban flow.
Our proposal envisions a modern public building that transcends its office function, integrating seamlessly with the urban fabric of Piraeus Street. By blending comfortable, efficient office spaces with open public areas, the project contributes to the city’s cultural and social vitality, pointing toward a sustainable urban future.
